April Birthstone - Diamond

We all know the saying; diamonds are a girl’s best friend, well that saying applies doubly to those born in April!

Diamonds are probably the most easily recognisable of all precious gemstones and are commonly associated with engagements and weddings. The beauty of diamonds makes them one of the most popular gemstones in the world. They are the birthstone for April and are thought to provide the wearer with stronger relationships and inner strength as well as balance, inner clarity and abundance.

Diamonds are a mineral composed of pure carbon and are the hardest of all gemstones, they resist scratching more than anything else. Therefore, they are often used in industrial applications, but they will always be best known for being used in jewellery pieces.

When you think of diamonds you probably think of a clear stone that sparkles beautifully in the light however, they can come in a wide range of colours, black, blue, yellow, brown and more. We also stock at Aurum a range of diamond jewellery with interesting salt and pepper diamonds. These diamonds are darker in colour and feature many white and black inclusions that give it the salt and pepper look they are named for. These are proving more and more popular due to the unusual but beautiful appearance of the stone.

What Is A Salt & Pepper Diamond?

This is a round brilliant cut salt and pepper diamond set into a yellow gold ring and you can clearly see the black and white flecks that inspired the name of this diamond.

More recently, advancements in technology have led to the creation of lab grown diamonds. These are genuine diamonds that have been grown from a diamond seed in a lab. These are identical to mined diamonds in every aspect: chemically, physically and optically but are more ethically sustainable and affordable!

We stock a large selection of diamond jewellery at Aurum. We highly recommend viewing our range online or in store. We can also source individual stones so that you can handpick your own diamond and have it set into a bespoke piece of jewellery for a unique and wonderful gift.
